Definition of Ignition Coils
As previously discussed above, the ignition coil is a component in the car's ignition system which has an important function, especially in gasoline-powered cars. Cars with gasoline engines need a spark from the spark plug so that the engine can start and work normally according to its function. That is why diesel cars do not have this component.
This component can even increase the battery voltage from low volts to 25,000 volts so that it can be used as electromagnetic induction power. This high voltage increase can create sparks on the spark plug so that the engine can run normally.

From the above understanding, it can be concluded that this component functions to increase the battery voltage from low voltage to high voltage up to 25,000 volts which can produce a spark at the spark plug.
If this component is not present, then the spark plug won't spark. Later the high voltage is supplied to the spark plugs on each part of the cylinder according to the sequence. Through the spark plug gap, the high voltage can jump from the positive electrode to the negative electrode so that the spark gets stronger and the engine can run normally.

How Ignition Coils Work
So, how does the ignition coil work so that it can produce sparks? Here's how it works:
- The main component of the ignition coil is a layered bobbin which consists of 2 layers. One layer consists of a primary magnet which contains a wire wound to produce a strong electric current and the second layer consists of a secondary wire coil which can increase the electric current.
- When the engine is turned on, the battery returns voltage to the primary layer via the ignition cable to the spark plug. The high voltage creates a spark at the spark plug which can ignite the fuel in the engine room. The engine can start normally and the car can run.
